Friday, June 15, 2018 was the 11 annual Inkwell Awards, taking place at Heroes Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. For those who don’t know much about comic book inking, here’s a good blog post to explain. This year, not only was it the 10th anniversary, but also the debut of the “Above & Beyond” Award. Above & Beyond was created to honor members, volunteers and others who exceptionally served in promoting the art form of comic book inking and ink artists. In addition there were the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award and the annual Stacey Aragon Special Recognition Award.

The Inkwell Awards was created by comic book artist and inker Bob Almond. Assisting him was two Ms. Inkwell spokes-models, Hailey Skaza-Gagne (formerly known as Holly Black) and Kathy Taylor. We finally had the chance to meet Bob Almond earlier this year at East Coast Comicon. He was accompanied with gorgeous Ms. Inkwell spokes-model, Skylar Lauren Godwin.

We interrupt this blog for an important announcement.

inkwellbanner1Starting from April 15 to April 30th, 2013 you can vote in the Inkwell Awards.

The Inkwell Awards is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and promotion of the art of inking. Inking is a much over-looked but crucial element to the comic book process. Everyone is encouraged to vote, whether you’re a fan or professional. The only difference this year is that the public is not allowed to vote in the The Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement category. The winners will be announced live at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC June 7-9 2013. For more information, please click on the above Inkwell Awards link.

Well this is a surprise. Someone nominated my blog for an award.

A big thanks goes to G.E. Gallas. At the moment she’s putting together a graphic novel based on William Blake.

If you’re curious about how this work, apparently it goes a little something like this:

  1. Post the award pic on the blog.
  2. Tell everyone about who gave you the award with a link to their blog.
  3. Nominate 15 more of your favorite blogs.
  4. Tell 7 interesting facts about you.

  1. benjaminherman.wordpress.com
  2. blyertssmuts.wordpress.com
  3. gegallas.wordpress.com
  4. alisonlouisehay.wordpress.com (ex-wife of Culture Club member Roy Hay, she paved her own pink way. I love reading her blog.)
  5. thecaffieneinducedworldofbrianakenny.wordpress.com
  6. catsvsbunnies.wordpress.com
  7. becomingjennie.wordpress.com (ex-porn star Penny Flame. She’s now renounced her former career. Her blog is about moving forward.

I was supposed to nominate 15 blogs, but I honestly only read a few. Sorry.

  1. In case you didn’t know, I’m an artist, cartoonist, and illustrator.
  2. I’ve self-published my own comics in the past, and been published by others.
  3. One of my favorite animation characters is Muttley
  4. I have a store on Cafe Press in case you wanna buy stuff
  5. I taught myself how to read tarot cards. Back in the ’90s I used to do tarot readings at club parties.
  6. You can buy WitchesBrewPress comics from my website
  7. Think I finally beat my iced coffee addiction

Until next time.

Well well well…and a top o’ the morning to you! Just found out that I’ve been nominated for not just one, but THREE Hallers awards! For those who don’t know, The Hallers are awards presented by CAG (Comicbook Artist Guild).

The Hallers was formerly known as The Caggies, but the name was later changed to The Hallers in honor of late cartoonist Rusty Haller (1964 – 2009). Infor about Rusty Haller can be found here: http://aceandqueenie.com/)

The nominations I received: Best Webcomic, Best Cartoonist, and Best Artist.

It’s an honor to be nominated. Even if I don’t win anything, it’s still an honor.

More details forthcoming.

BTW, for those who don’t know, I will have a table at the NYCC 2010, Artist Alley. Weekend of October 8 -10, 2010. New York City’s biggiest comic convention will be at the Jacob K. Javits Center (655 West 34th Street 11th Avenue)
